What we collect
We do not create user accounts or store your search history on our servers.
Great Britain postcode searches first use postcode files stored on this website. If a valid Great Britain postcode is missing from those files, or a file cannot load, the browser sends that postcode to Postcodes.io to get map coordinates. Northern Ireland postcode searches are not sent to Postcodes.io.
If you choose “Use my location”, your browser asks for permission. The page uses the coordinates to sort nearby results and move the map.
After a successful postcode, town, or browser location search, the site saves a small location record in your browser. It contains latitude, longitude, the location source, the save time, and a postcode or town name when needed. It does not contain your search history. The record expires after 30 days. You can remove it at any time with “Clear” or “Clear location” in a finder. This record stays in your browser and is not sent to our server.
A location page can save a centre and keep a short list of recently viewed centres. These records contain the centre name, page path and listed address. They stay in your browser and are not sent to our server. The location page has controls to clear saved and recent centres.
Location reports
When you report a clothes bank as full or emptied, we store the report status, its time, and the stable bank ID. We do not accept free text or photos.
Your browser also remembers your last successful choice for each bank for 48 hours. This keeps your selected button disabled while allowing you to change your report. Clearing this site's browser storage removes these saved choices.
We combine your network address with a private secret and store only the resulting hash. The hash helps us limit repeated reports and count distinct reporters. We do not store the network address in the reports database. Reports expire from the public status after 48 hours and are deleted after 30 days.
Reports are not verified by the site operator. Amber means fewer than three distinct matching reporters have reported the latest status since the last opposing report. Three or more matching reporters show red for full or green for emptied. This threshold is not a guarantee. People sharing a network address can count as one reporter.
Clicky analytics
The production site uses Clicky to measure visits and page use. We disable Clicky tracking cookies and report page paths without search query strings. We do not send a custom user ID or your saved locations to Clicky. Clicky can process normal connection information, including your IP address and browser details.
Maps
Map pages load the Leaflet map library from unpkg and map tiles from CARTO. These services receive normal network information, such as your IP address and browser details. The tile request also identifies the visible map area. The site does not send your saved postcode or location label with these requests.
Data sources
The recycling location data shown on this site comes from publicly available sources including OpenStreetMap, council websites, and other open data repositories.
We aggregate this data to make it easier to find recycling facilities near you. We do not claim ownership of this data.
